JAGUAR XJR-16

The 90s of the last century were really dashing for Jaguar: against the backdrop of two victories of the XJR-9 and XJR-12 prototypes at Le Mans (in 1988 and 1990), the British brand rushed into the major league of road supercars and eventually gave the world the XJR- 15 and XJ220. Both models were developed with the participation of the Tom Walkinshaw Racing (TWR) racing team, but if the long-suffering XJ220 was still for the most part a factory product, then the XJR-15 project was almost completely supervised by TWR, although the formal manufacturer was a subsidiary of JaguarSport.

The Jaguar XJR-15 is essentially a derivative of the XJR-9 and XJR-12 racing prototypes, this model uses many of the details and technical solutions of Le Mans cars, but the entire design has been optimized for use on public roads, while Of the 50 road versions produced between 1990 and 1992, there were only 27, the rest were offered in track specification.

The road XJR-15 received a carbon-Kevlar monocoque reshaped compared to racing relatives, the landing of the pilot and the only passenger became more comfortable. The all-round double wishbone suspension (front push-rod type) has been reconfigured for a softer ride. Modified by Cosworth, the 6.0-liter naturally aspirated V12 produces quite modest 456 hp even by the standards of the early 90s, but thanks to the low curb weight (1050 kg), the XJR-15 has very decent dynamics: acceleration to 100 km / h takes less than 4 s, and the maximum speed exceeds 340 km/h. Gearbox - 5-speed "mechanics" with a shift lever for the right hand, the drive wheels are rear.

Prepared for sale at RM Sotheby's, the copy is unofficially called the Japan Study Car, as it has long been in the possession of an engineer from the Nismo Racing team and was used by him for various technical experiments in the field of hybrid propulsion and aerodynamics. In 2015, the restorers of the Bespoke Motors workshop in Australia returned the car to the factory stock state, that is, in fact, reset its life path in Japan, since then the supercar has only driven 1,535 km.
