When the world's largest democracy imposed the world's largest blockade-India had a curfew of 1.3 billion people, which put many Brits in trouble.

As flights are suspended until at least mid-April, those on holiday or visiting relatives cannot return to the UK unless the British Government has evacuated the flight.

I've talked to several people who have said they are desperate-they can't get food because basic supplies are inadequate in some places, and they worry that their health will worry about running out of drugs.

Others said they were afraid to leave the hotel due to concerns about foreigners spreading the virus because of growing opposition to foreigners.

The British embassy in India says it works 24 hours a day to send people home, but many travelers say they are still waiting for officials to reply and guarantee.

They questioned why the British government has not arranged evacuation flights from India, Germany, Japan and Israel.

The German mission in India even sent some Britons to its rescue flight.

More than 20,000 people have now signed an online petition calling on the British government to do more. One signatory conveyed this message to the government-let's do the right thing and then take them home.

America latest

  • On Friday, President Donald Trump signed a $ 2.2tr (1.8tr pound) rescue bill passed by Congress, the largest fiscal stimulus package in US history
  • The bill is designed to ease the burden on companies and ordinary Americans, and more than 3.3 million of them have recently lost their jobs due to the global pandemic
  • Mr. Trump also cited the National Defense Production Act during the Korean War, forcing automaker GM to make ventilators.
  • Doctors and nurses have been warning of the lack of medical equipment, calling it a "national shame"
  • Mayors of about 90% of U.S. cities say they expect severe shortages of important personal safety equipment in the coming weeks
  • There are more than 100,000 Covid-19 patients in the United States, more than any other country in the world.

More on the rise in deaths in the UK

Across Britain, 1,019 people have died.

According to the NHS England survey, an additional 246 people tested positive for coronavirus, resulting in deaths, bringing the total confirmed deaths to 935.

The number of deaths in Scotland has increased by 7 to 40.

In Wales, four more people died, bringing the number to 38.

Two more deaths in Northern Ireland increased the number to 15.

US city 'flattens curve' with containment zone

120,776 coronavirus tests were performed, of which 170,089 were positive and 103,687 were negative.
According to the New York Times, a city in New York State may have slowed the spread of the coronavirus by introducing a containment area.

Earlier this month, New Rochelle reported a surprising 90 cases, all related to a lawyer.

In response, officials established a one-mile containment area in the city. Schools, churches and synagogues are closed, and large indoor parties are banned.

The National Guard was also asked to deliver food and help clean the school.

The containment area appears to have had a positive impact, as only 38 new cases have been confirmed over the past four days.

"Everyone is talking about flattening the curve, and I think that's exactly what we can do in New Rochelle," Dr. Sherlita Amler told The New York Times.

But state health officials have urged caution, warning that it is too early to tell whether these measures will work.
