The device will be released for $ 1,500 (£ 1,170) and will be available in the United States starting December 26.

Parent company Lenovo blames Razr's popularity, saying demand exceeds supply.

But this is another example of a molar problem with a folding phone.

Motorola said it did not believe the time delay would be "significant", but has not revealed a new date.

When Chris Fox of the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) tried out Razr's prototype, he discovered some hardware issues-especially the way the screen separated from the device when folded.

His judgement is that it is more likely to appeal as a fashion device than the main device.

Although the price at $ 1,500 sounds like an expensive device, Razr is under the two main competitors of the emerging folding mobile phone market, namely Samsung Fold ($ 1,980) and Huawei Mate X ($ 2,600).

Samsung postponed the Fold release after critics reported that its device screen was broken.

Huawei followed suit and said that Samsung's troubles had decided to do more tests on the Mate X before its release.

Both devices finally launched - fold in September and Mate X in November. This was despite enthusiastic talks among those who predicted the trend at the beginning of the year about the arrival of festive mobiles, and how they could help revive the smartphone market.

In January, a small California-based company was known as Royal Corporation, which unveiled a folded handset called FlexSpace during an October 2018 event in Beijing.
